1.  Competition Committee Decisions

  • Eligibility of players not falling within league parameters
  • Grievances that cannot be resolved between coaches of the member towns' leadership
  • Referee complaints that cannot be handled by the leagues' head official
  • Violations of league rules

2.  Age and Eligibility (for Spring Season)

Teams will be based on grade level, provided that current age eligibility requirements are met.

  • Grade levels are defined as follows:
    • 14U = 8th and 7th grades
    • 12U = 6th and 5th grades
    • 10U = 4th and 3rd grades
    • 8U =  2nd and 1st grades

US Lacrosse establishes eligibility guidelines in order to promote the game of lacrosse among the youth of America in a safe and sportsmanlike environment. To best achieve this goal, US Lacrosse believes that leagues, associations, and other organizers of youth lacrosse should seek to provide playing opportunities that, as much as possible, establish a "level playing field" among players of similar age, size, and ability.

 

  • Waivers for age eligible players to play down can be requested following MBYLL's waiver process. A waiver is required from the league, not the local town program.
    • All waiver requests must include accurate details regarding date of birth, height, weight and level of experience. They must be submitted by February 1st prior to the start of the spring season to the chair of your regional competition committee.
    • Age Certification - All teams must submit a roster with name, grade and date of birth to the designated regional director at least one month prior to the beginning of the season.
    • 14U Player is Under 15 years of age as of August 31st prior to start of season will only be considered if:
      • I) Must be age eligible.
      • II) Must have NO high school program at town or school they attend.
      • III) Any 9th grader who meets all the above requirements MUST apply for a waiver to be eligible to play. 
      • Waivers for 9th graders are only for MBYLL town programs in their first three years of existence as a program.
  • Participation in a Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse town program

Any player who wishes to participate in Massachusetts Bay Youth Lacrosse League (MBYLL) must play for the MBYLL Town Program that governs their location of residency as assigned by the MBYLL Board of Directors. While the majority of time, this is the name of the town if which someone lives, MBYLL has programs that govern multiple towns and/or communities (multi-town programs like Guardians Lacrosse, and city programs such as Boston, Parkway, etc).

  • The resident town program for a child of divorced parents can be either program where one of the parents resides.

Any player looking to play for a program for which they do not reside in that program’s governing area, must be approved via the Waiver Process. The town program looking to accept the player must submit a Waiver for the player. The Waiver request must be sent to the town’s Regional Director who will in-turn send the request to the Regional Competition Committee for approval or denial. The Regional Competition Committee will begin by contacting the program that governs where the player resides for initial approval (If the location of residency is governed by a MBYLL program). If the player resides in a location that does not participate in MBYLL or does not have a youth lacrosse program, the Waiver will go directly to an approval/denial vote by the Regional Competition Committee.

  • If the program governing the player’s residency opposes the Waiver, the Waiver is immediately denied.
  • If the program governing the player’s residency approves the Waiver, the Regional Competition Committee will vote to approve or deny the Waiver. Following the vote, the player’s family, town programs involved, and the Regional Director(s) will be notified. Reasons for denial may include, but are not limited to:
    • Any appearance of recruitment of players from outside a programs area of governance.

3.  Complaint Procedure

Step I:

Report to Regional Competition Committee 
A) Regional competition committee will notify competition committee chairman.
B) Regional competition committee head will contact the following week's opposing coaches and scheduled referee, asking them to observe if the action in the complaint repeats itself.

Step II:

Report received from coach & referee 
A) If no problem is detected, no further action is required.
B) If a problem is detected, the Regional Competition Committee contacts town representative to address the issue and the necessary corrections.
C) Opposing coaches & the assigned referee for the next game are again notified. If the problem is not detected, no further action is required.
D) If a problem is detected, MBYLL Competition Committee Chairman is notified.

Step III:

MBYLL Competition Committee will determine necessary sanctions up to and including suspension or expulsion from the league or a team.
